This is a model of a harquebusier from the English Civil War era. References were gathered from museums, archives, and photos from historical reenactments. The goal of the project is to recreate a soldier model as close to the available historical evidence as possible.
Most of the hard surfaces were done in Maya, especially for the main pieces such as armor and weapons. Except for the fine details on the hand guard of the sword and the stock of the carbine which I sculpted on a higher subdivision level then baked to normal maps in ZBrush.
In this project, I familiarized myself with Marvelous Designer to achieve a more realistic look on the buff coat and gloves by simulating with a simple animation I created. Prior to the simulation, Meshes had been retopologized in Maya, which was easier to do in a neutral pose.
For the portrait of the character, tertiary detail and color were painted by hand in Substance 3D Painter with general brushes and alphas in procedural PBR workflow.
Although eyebrows and eyelashes were fiberMeshes from ZBrush, Xgen was the option of grooming for this project. The rest of the model was later reassembled and rendered in MAYA with Arnold.
